Biography
Dr. Alice Owen is a senior partner at Visionary Technologies, a company that consults with K-12 education on technology needs. She recently retired her position as the Executive Director of the Texas Education Technology Leaders (TETL), an association of chief technology officers in K-12 schools. She began this position in 2013 after a 38 year career in education. She served as Division Director of Technology in Irving ISD from 2003-2013 where she oversaw all aspects of technology operations including: infrastructure, information systems, technical services, libraries, and career and technical education. She managed one of the longest running 1:1 laptop programs in the nation.
Dr. Owen graduated from Austin College with a B.A. in Spanish and and M.A. in Elementary Education. She earned her Ph.D. from University of North Texas in educational administration and political science. She has been a bilingual teacher, principal, staff development director, adjunct professor and executive director of one of the largest technology associations in the country. Throughout her career she has gained a wide background in curriculum and instruction, professional development, program evaluation and project management. In 2012, she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Technology in Education from the Texas Computer Education Association and was ISTE's (International Society of Technology Education) Outstanding Leader for 2012.
