Biography
Meg Scott-Johnson began active League volunteering in Kerrville in 2007 when Ann Sullivan invited her to be involved in the League Program Study of Immigration.
from there she has served LWV Kerrville Area as Voters Service, Membership, and then President a couple of terms. During her second term the board changed their structure to the Leadership Team model.
When a League member suggested that changing our League name would expand our area of influence, Meg asked the leadership of Hays ad Comal Area Leagues if our name of LWV Hill Country would be agreeable to their Leagues. It was and we proceeded with the name change process. Becoming LWV Hill Country did begin to expand our League reach.
Our candidate forums were models for other such forums in the county. Yes, there are stories about those! When the Chamber of Commerce would not agree to have no microphone for the public at a candidate forum, we pulled out of partnership. Then in eleven days we organized a most successful candidate forum. Our voter registration events were held from Kerr County Market Days to the high schools.
From attending the LWVUS National Convention in June 2016, Meg brought the idea and specifics of a "speed-dating" candidate forum to our League. We did it! The first one in Texas.
She served on the LWVTX Human Trafficking Study Committee and then as Issue Chair for Human Trafficking for two legislative terms.
Meg served as Secretary of LWVTX State Board 2016-18. From 2018-2022, Meg was VP on the state board serving on the Service to Local Leagues Committee; and 2020-22 also on the Voter Education Committee.
On the LWVTX SLL Committe she initiated the meetings of the League at Large Mentors, the position of Membership Coordinator, the position of Individual State Members, and Coordinator Leagues at Large .
In April 2021, Meg and her husband, Richard B Johnson, MD, moved to a full-service retirement community, Eagle's Trace, in west Houston.
Forever Meg's heart will be League!
